What is the aim of this website?
In many constituencies, only one or two parties have a chance at winning the seat. This website shows you which way to vote in your constituency that is most likely to keep out the Tories.
How does that work?
In a constituency that only Labour or the Tories could win, we ask people from all parties to come together and vote for Labour. In a constituency that only the Liberal Democrats or the Tories could win, we ask people from all parties to come together and vote for the Liberal Democrats. The same goes for the Green party, SNP, Plaid Cymru etc. This way the progressive vote is not split into many parts but combined into one, and we can prevent the Tories from winning many seats and gaining power.
What is tactical voting?
Tactical voting is placing a vote for a candidate that isn’t necessarily the voter’s first preference. Sometimes called ‘strategic voting’ or ‘sophisticated voting’, this method is typically used when the preferred candidate isn’t likely to be popular enough to win. In this case, the voter would simply choose one of the candidates most likely to win, rather than their first choice who has little chance.

What data are you using to achieve these recommendations?
This website mainly uses data from the 2010, 2015 and recent by-elections, as well as local information and polling. As more information becomes available, such as local election results, we will taking these into account also.
Why are some results TBC?
With the current data available, some constituencies are hard for us to call. We’ve left them as TBC for now so as to not issue false information. We will update these as new information becomes available, for example the local election results in May.
Why aren’t you advising UKIP votes in constituencies where they could unseat Conservative MPs?
For the same reason as advising tactical voting against the Conservatives in the first place, we cannot endorse votes for UKIP.
Why aren't you advising voters in Northern Ireland?
The Tories don't run here, although the DUP and UUP could potentially form a coalition with them if they need a few extra seats. If you want to know more about the parties in Northern Ireland, please visit this site for a brief overview of each party: https://inews.co.uk/essentials/news/politics/general-election-2017-northern-ireland-political-parties/
Are you affiliated with the tactical voting spreadsheet?
Yes we are! We are a group of volunteers who came together when we saw the sheet to make a mobile friendly version that was accessible to all.
How did all this come about?
Who created this site?
We’re a team of cross-party, anti-Conservative volunteers from a variety of backgrounds located all across the country.
Is this anything to do with Gina Miller’s campaign?
Although her campaign is similar, we are not affiliated. Our aim is simply to stop a Conservative majority at the next election. Her aim is specifically a pro European one.
